![]() He thinks like a football player and not like a sport commentator. He is an interesting commentator, and I enjoyed his role on weekend shows with Glen Macnow and Ray Didinger, but I never warmed to Thomas for one reason. It would be professional suicide and lead to boredom beyond your imagination. No one does five hours of live radio without preparing a script or at least a tight game plan. The big question will be whether Spike, as a station executive, will go with the flow when Innes bends rules or goes off-script. He wields it a tad more wildly and less pointedly, but it keeps every discussion in which Spike is involved lively and worth listening to, whether you agree with Spike or not. Eskin has inherited his father’s talent for sarcasm. The patter may become argumentative, but it will also be challenging and funny. Eskin and Innes have a similar edge, and each digs in his heels when he believes something is so. As a listener, I like the choice of Eskin to work with Innes. ![]() Thomas, who spent 14 years in the NFL, 10 with the Eagles, is hardly old at age 41, but he raises the maturity factor, while Innes and Eskin bring bright young voices to the 94.1 mike.Įskin will be in that prickly position of being management and talent. ![]() Like Innes, Thomas and Eskin both speak their minds and stick firmly to their assessments and opinions. ![]() They are former Eagles defensive tackle Hollis Thomas, now the defensive line coach with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League, and WIP Program Director Spike Eskin, son of Philadelphia’s most resilient sports commentator, Howard Eskin. weekday spot on WIP will be called solely, “The Josh Innes Show.” Permanent company, two co-hosts if you will, have been selected, both of whom sat in with Innes as he and 94.1 searched for a replacement for Tony Bruno, who retired suddenly one afternoon. All along, Josh Innes warned he might invite random callers on his WIP (94.1) sports talk program to audition to be his co-host, but the odds were greater than one in a million a civilian would be chosen. ![]()
